“THE ADVANTAGES OF LOCATING YOUR COMPANY AMIDST THE GREATEST CONCENTRATION OF POWER AND INFLUENCE IN THE WORLD.”
With that audacious headline roaring across two pages of the Wall Street Journal, Siddall and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority began a branding campaign that would transform Fairfax County from a growing residential community to one of the most sought after business locations in the world. Its success is studied by MBA candidates at Harvard and celebrated by its residents, whose per capita income ranks second among counties in America.
As Time magazine reported, “Fairfax is home to a million people and 600,000 jobs. It is ethnically and racially diverse. It has excellent public schools. Its unemployment rate is just 1.9%…it is one of the great economic development success stories of our time.”
And it’s all due to a client-agency partnership focused on the long-term gain of the client. For over 30 years, that partnership has done much to grow Fairfax County. The county has been positioned as a strategic business location served by three major airports and with immediate access to decision makers in Washington. Venture Capitalists have been enticed to invest in the Fairfax County businesses that have defined the Information Age. And a highly educated workforce has been attracted to the area.
The strategy has produced a critical mass of employers, employees and investment capital unmatched in the history of economic development. Today, Fairfax County has more than 100 million square feet of office space, a concentration that rivals many major cities. The public school system has been rated the best in the nation by the U.S. Department of Education. Its per capita income is $106,785, the second highest in America, and the overall quality of life here is considered “excellent” by 93% of its residents.
Perhaps even more remarkable is the fact that the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority has relied on one agency for these 30-plus years of success. Siddall.
